National Palace, Sintra
Also known as the Village Palace, the Sintra National Palace is situated in the village of Sintra near Lisboa. The building is considered to be the best preserved mediaeval Royal Palace in all of Portugal. Today it serves as a critical tourist attraction and is part of the cultural landscape of the village as designated by the World Heritage Site. The palace features mixture of Gothic, Moorish and Manueline dÈcor styles that derive from renovations and construction during both the 15th and 16th Centuries. Dominating the skyline of the city are conical chimneys hailing from the palaces kitchen. Lastly, several intriguingly decorated rooms can be found in the palace including the Swannís Room (featuring painted swans on the ceiling) and a Pegasí Room (with magpies painted on the ceiling).
